So, the question many of you are asking is this: Do children even NEED a detox?
Short answer: YES!
Toxins are unfortunately virtually unavoidable in today’s world. Toxins or poisons, whichever you prefer, are in everything. They are everywhere. The food we eat has become more of a chemical mash-up than actual food. Our environment is quickly becoming nothing more than a giant petri dish of toxic air. On an emotional/spiritual level we are often dealing with an unbalanced load of hate and negativity. From a mental stand point children are becoming more and more stressed on a daily basis, unhappy, and dealing with many issues like depression or ADHD that even a generation ago where thought of as adult disorders. The products we use in personal hygiene or to keep our house clean are slowly destroying our hormonal balances, reproductive capabilities and who knows what else. Even today’s medical community is in the business of simply masking our ailments with toxic medicine that to often causes worse side effects rather than identify and cure the underlying problem we are dealing with.
Our children are exposed to the same toxins we are, but in stronger doses if you view it in terms of their much smaller body size. Our children are still growing, often at very rapid rates, and they are more sensitive to everything around them, everything they ingest, everything they breathe, EVERYTHING! Even before they are born, our lifestyles as moms will expose them to a scary amount of toxins in the womb. Please don’t think I am trying to make you feel guilty or scare you! Heavens know I was FAR from perfect during any of my pregnancies! Really about the only things I was diligent about doing with all of them was avoiding sushi (can’t stand fish in general) and controlling my gestational diabetes. So, don’t beat yourself up over the past! What’s done is done. Move on. Strive to do better from here on out. Remember, none of us are perfect. Baby steps are better than no steps!
Detox is just a shortened version of the verb “detoxification”, which by definition means to rid the body of poisons or the effect of poisons. While many of us automatically think of juicing or a multi-day cleanse when we hear the word “detox”, this is not the best or only option. Juicing is a short term fix at best for a few issues and not the best or safest option for children. Detoxing should address more than just our physical body. It should be more than just a short term band-aid we apply once or twice a year. It should become a lifestyle. Detoxing our family should be seen as a transformation. We can transform from the not so pleasant caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. This is why we use the Dragonfly in our logo. Dragonflies in many cultures symbolize transformation by a wise & mature person. I like to think that those of us in the Mama Detox family are wise & mature parents who want the best for our families.
Here at Mama Detox we try to address every toxic area of life and find safe ways to rid the toxins from not only our own lives, but that of our entire family. We try to do this in ways that we will be able to follow and live by for the rest of our life, not just a short term fix. What is the point of detoxing only to allow the poisons back in to do their damage all over again? We will constantly be adding to our resource list, so please check it often! If you have a favorite healthy, safe resource, please email me with the information and I will look into it! If you come across a link/product that is not working or you know is no longer a “safe” product, please email me! Sometimes companies change hands and they change the ingredients they use or the way they do things and I don’t catch it. Let’s work together!
